Ntungamo District has intensified political mobilization for President Yoweri Museveni ahead of the 2026 general elections, with at least 20 groups now officially registered under the office of the Resident District Commissioner (RDC).
RDC Miriam Kagaiga Mugisha said the registration process serves both organizational and security purposes as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) expands its grassroots campaigns across the district.
“The groups are meant to mobilize for President Museveni. So far, I have received 20 groups, and for security purposes, we wanted to know them and their intentions,” Kagaiga said. “Today, I have launched Henry Mugabe Kanahe’s mobilization group, adding it to the total number of groups. I will later have the overall district campaign groups launch.”
She encouraged local associations and “Nyekundire” groups interested in supporting the President to register through her office.
Henry Mugabe Kanahe, the President’s Private Secretary for ICT and leader of one mobilization team, said his group will use a door-to-door approach to reach households in Ntungamo and neighboring areas.
“We are going to do this work based on a door-to-door model,” Kanahe explained. “Our target is to deliver 10,000 pictures of President Museveni and all NRM flag bearers in the areas we are visiting. We shall also extend our efforts to selected constituencies in neighboring districts.”
Ntungamo District Chairperson and NRM flag bearer, Samuel Mucunguzi, expressed confidence that the district would deliver one of the highest vote percentages for the ruling party in the upcoming elections.
“Our target as Ntungamo District is to secure at least 98% of the total votes,” Mucunguzi said.
“With grassroots mobilization and house-to-house campaigns like the one by Henry Kanahe’s team, we shall achieve our target. They are distributing posters to households, and this will put NRM in a stronger position.”
He urged residents to welcome the mobilization teams and cooperate with their activities, emphasizing that the campaign efforts will prepare the ground for NRM flag bearers to engage the electorate effectively.
Meanwhile, district mobilization leaders have pledged to strengthen NRM’s dominance and prevent opposition parties from gaining ground in Ntungamo.
